How does the part come free?

Station 1: contour, hole and slot go below Z10.

Station 2: the back is faced down to Z8.974.

Removing the bottom opens those cuts right through and the part is free.

G41 D1 / D2 / D6

The path is already on the cutter centre.

D1 / D2 / D6 hold wear only ≈ 0.

The operator fine-tunes profile, hole and slot from the wear column. Haas: Setting 40.

Production details

  • Back faced from Z19.05 in 7 levels of 1.44 mm
  • M8 on in every operation, form cutter included
  • Station 1 on G54, station 2 on G55
  • Positioning in G0, linking moves in G1
  • Cycle ≈ 5.7 min for two parts in work

The key-seat cutter

It cuts sideways, under an edge: it makes the tooth that levers the cap.

It drops into the open slot at 1,000 mm/min, then moves in sideways with G41 D6.

Lots of edge engaged → 1,500 rpm and 152–305 mm/min.

Positive Z?

Top face at Z19.05, finished back at Z8.974.

Z zero is below the part (probably on the parallels plane): that way it works for both vises.

Before Cycle Start

  • D1, D2, D6 = wear
  • Part 19.05 tall in station 2
  • G55 set on the second vise
  • 6 tools measured
  • Disc vs slot width
  • First cycle: station 2 empty
  • Optional Stop, low override

Setup sheet

at the machine
  • Z0 on the parallels plane, both vises
  • G55 = G54 shifted Y-141.6
  • Setting 40: D as radius
