Work cycle

  1. Facing Ø160 → centre
  2. Roughing Ø140 and Ø82, 3 mm per side
  3. Finishing the whole profile
  4. Face pocket with live tool T0101, in G12.1

All the turning with a single tool (T0202).

n = 1000·Vc / (π·D): at Ø160 → 213 rpm, capped at 2,500 below Ø13.6.

Cycle time

≈ 15.9 min

Roughing at 0.3 mm/rev: 9.7 min.

One finishing pass at 0.127 for the surface.

1,000 mm/min with 2 flutes: 0.125 mm per tooth.

Helical entry, then contour layers down to Z-37.

G96 or G97?

G96: constant Vc, rpm follows the diameter. For turning.

G97: fixed rpm. For approaches, live tools and before rapids.

With G96 you always need the G50 cap.

Polar interpolation

G12.1: X (diameter) and C behave like a mill's X and Y.

The spindle is stopped and acts as a C axis: M5 P11, M35, G28 H0.

End: G13.1.

Before Cycle Start

  • Chuck max rpm ≥ 2,500
  • ≥ 75 mm out of the jaws
  • Sub-spindle at home
  • T0202 and T0101 measured
  • Live tool stick-out ≥ 40 mm
  • Live tool up to 4,000 rpm
  • Single block, low override

Watch out!

During facing the rpm climbs by itself up to 2,500 as the tool reaches the centre.

It's not a machine fault: it's G96.
